Forever Changed - July 13th

The morning of July 13th forever changed our lives. I took Macey to meet Brittany at Macey's doctor's office for what we thought may have been a milk allergy. As it turns out though, Macey was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Her glucose reading was 592. Normal is around 90. I remember the doctor saying over and over, "I'm so sorry."

Brittany and I had no idea how our families lives would be forever changed. The next thing we knew we were driving over I-84 to check our sweet Miss Macey into the hospital. This picture was taken exactly one week before her diagnosis. As we understand now, Type 1 Diabetes can come on quite rapidly.

Our lives now revolve around glucose tests, carb counting and insulin shots. It's been such a shock emotionally but we are trying to find our way and Macey is such a brave little girl. The good thing about being diagnosed so early is that this will become normal for her. Right now though, for the rest of us, it shatters our hearts that this sweet little girl will have a life of finger pokes and insulin shots four to five times a day.

I will get to those studio pictures. Life just threw us a curveball and I've been out in the cornfield trying to find my way back to the ballpark.

Warmest bear hugs, Aleta

Dear friend - I understand that you are in a whole new world. I have a dear, young friend with Type I Diabetes and I know what she went through at first. She is a productive, healthy, happy young college woman now and we love to see how well she's done through the years. Take the time you need to get back to the ballpark - we've been doing the same thing over the past 2 weeks. Those curveballs come out of nowhere and catch us totally off-guard, don't they? Hugs to you,
~Adrienne~

Awww! I feel your pain. My son was diagnosed with type 1 about a month ago. We went to the ER for a cyst on his back. We found out then he had it. In hindsight he had all the classic symptoms too. They kept him in the hospital for 3 days as they leveled out his glucose, electrolytes and potassium. While my son is a number of years older than your little darling it is quite life changing. I was a basket case for a couple weeks. But it's manageable and my son has an excellent attitude. And I'm sure your little girl will do fine. It hurts though to think they will be insulin dependent for the rest of their lives. That's huge I think.
My thoughts are with you and I sent you and Macey my best.
Big Bear Hugs!!
Kelly

I can't really add any support but just to say I'm sure she will be able to live her life just fine. My sis-in law's brother has it and hes mostly good. Typical bloke, sometimes he does'nt do things as he should do though!

Dearest Aleta,
I meant to write as soon as you left me your note, to tell you how deeply it had touched me, and to ask if all was OK.... but then I was so busy and forgot it. My heart goes out to you and your family now, but remember that God won't leave you and sweet Macey alone!
You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Big hugs,
Monica xoxo

So sorry to hear your bad news, I hope that you get back to that ballpark soon.
Little Macey certainly is a brave little girl and I send my biggest bear hugs from England to her,
you and your family.

My prayers go out for Macey. My 14 year old daughter has a good friend who was diagnosed when she was in the 5th grade. She's a very active, healthy girl and you would never know she had any health issues. She's about as normal as any 14 year old girl I know. Macey will be just fine, she has a loving and supportive family.
Take care,
Diane

Just visited today (August 16) and am shocked to learn of this, but I do agree with all the good commenters above mine that she is going to be just fine. Mary Tyler Moore has the same condition and certainly never held her back.

Meanwhile, I missed you at my annual OC sale, but hey, there will be others.

Hugs,

Christine
